National Women's Soccer League

De National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is sinds 2013 de hoogste professionele voetbalcompetitie in de Verenigde Staten van Amerika. De competitie wort georganiseerd door de United States Soccer Federation.

De competitie loopt van april tot oktober, waarbij elk team 24 wedstrijden speelt, 12 thuis en 12 uit. Aan het eind van het seizoen wint het team met de meeste punten. De vier hoogst geplaatste teams plaatsen zich voor de play-offs, een knock-out toernooi van twee halve finales en een finale.

In 2021 zal een nieuw team aan de competitie worden toegevoegd, Proof Louisville FC uit Louisville, Kentucky. Eerder deden nog meer teams mee aan de competitie: tussen 2013–2017 Boston Breakers en FC Kansas City, en van 2013–2016 Western New York Flash. Deze laatste is overgaan naar North Carolina Courage, door hun NWSL-licentie door te verkopen aan deze club.

Spelersvakbond

In mei 2017 werd de National Women's Soccer League Players Association opgericht voor niet geselecteerde speelsters. Sinds november 2018 is de vakbond ook officieel geaccepteerd door de NWSL.
