Lourenço Marques was een Portugese handels- en ontdekkingsreiziger in de 16e eeuw. In 1544 nam hij het huidige Mozambique voor Portugal in bezit.

Tot aan de onafhankelijkheid van Mozambique droeg de hoofdstad Maputo ook de naam Lourenço Marques.
