John Charles Ryle

John Charles Ryle (Macclesfield, 1816 – Liverpool, 1900) was predikant in de Anglicaanse Kerk. Op 64-leeftijd werd hij bisschop in Liverpool. Hij heeft dit ambt 20 jaar (tot zijn dood) bekleed. In de verkondiging van het Woord stond Ryle in de reformatorische traditie. Nederlandse vertalingen van zijn werken zijn (mede vanwege hun praktische benadering) nog altijd veelgelezen, vooral in de bevindelijk gereformeerde kerken. De boeken hebben titels als Hoe gaat het met u? en Zullen wij elkaar in de hemel kennen?.
