Gomphotheriidae

De Gomphotheriidae is een groep van uitgestorven Slurfdieren (ook wel proboscidea genoemd), die nauw verwant waren aan de mastodonten. Soms worden de gomphotheriën ook wel als mastodonten aangeduid. Ongeveer 10.000-12.000 jaar geleden stierven de gomphotheriën uit, samen met veel andere grote zoogdieren.
