Carrière
Jankel was sinds eind jaren zeventig werkzaam als toetsenist, gitarist en songwriter bij Ian Dury & the Blockheads, waar hij onder andere met Dury het nummer Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll schreef. Hij zou verantwoordelijk zijn voor de funk-invloed in de muziek van The Blockheads. Begin jaren tachtig begon Jankel een solo-carrière. Zijn single Ai no Corrida werd een hit in 1982, en was een wereldhit in de versie van Quincy Jones. Ook de funky single Glad To Know You van het album Chasanova (1981), werd voor Jankel in 1982 een wereldwijd succes.
Na een solo-carrière in de Verenigde Staten tijdens de jaren negentig keerde Jankel terug bij The Blockheads en werkte hij met Dury samen op diens beide laatste albums Mr. Love Pants (1998) en Ten More Turnips From The Tip.[1] Sinds de dood van Ian Dury in 2000 treedt Chaz Jankel met zijn band verder op onder de naam Blockheads.
Jankel werkte ook als filmmuzikant.
