Zhao Cangbi

Zhao Cangbi (Chinese: 赵苍壁; Pinyin: Zhào Cāngbì; 1916–1993) was a Chinese official, Minister of Public Security.

Biography

Zhao was born in Qingjian County, Shaanxi in 1916. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1935. In 1945, Zhao was appointed deputy department head of public security for the Shaan-Gan-Ning Border Region, where he oversaw counterintelligence activities. Zhao was assigned to command troops defending Communinst Party leadership evacuating Yan'an during the Kuomingtang's Lüliang Campaign in 1946–47.[1] After the foundation of the People's Republic of China, Zhao worked in the police system across a number of provinces.

From 1977 to 1983, he was the Minister of Public Security. He was also a member of the 11th CPC Central Committee from 1977 to 1982 and the 12th CPC Central Committee from 1982 to 1987.[2]
