World Music Awards

The World Music Awards is an international award show founded in 1989 under the high patronage of Albert II, Prince of Monaco and Co-Founder, Executive Producer - John Martinotti of which is based in Monte Carlo. Awards are presented to the world's best-selling artists in the various categories and to the best-selling artists from each major territory. Sales figures are provided by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). Nine awards are voted online by the public. The awards are gold-plated, each depicting an artist holding the world. The awards were last held in Monte Carlo, Monaco in 2014.

Charity

Each edition the World Music Awards builds a hospital, school or orphanage through the Monaco Aide et Presence Foundation and/or the Combonian Missionary Association which both assist underdeveloped Areas in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and South America. There are 23 operational Centres still saving lives and providing shelter and education for those in need including a hospital at Port Bouet serving a population of over 170,000 inhabitants, a school in Zebizekou and a school in Songon, Ivory Coast, a hospital in Phulbani, 2 homes for abandoned children and a school in Coimbatore India, a home for handicapped girls in Katukuranda, Sri Lanka, a hospital in Butare, Rwanda, a hospital in El Daein, Darfur, a health centre in Rwarangabo, Burundi, a health centre in Teberent and a school in Kankelena Mali, a hospital in Kiota and a school in Fetabanoye, Niger, a health centre in Maroa and a home in Yaounde, Cameroun, a hospital in Rominh, Cambodia, a home for abandoned children in Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a hospital, school and 12 homes in Akamasoa Madagascar, a home in St. Louis, Haiti and the complete renovation and extension of an existing hospital in Mokatam, Egypt. World Music Awards has also paid for 5 wells to provide clean water in Africa. [1]

Legend Awards

The Legend Award honors top recording artists who have made outstanding contributions to the music industry, including;[2]

Diamond Award

The Diamond Award honors top-selling artists who have been certified as selling over 100,000,000 albums throughout their career, totaling seven so far. [2]

Millennium Awards

Two special awards were presented in 2000 to honor the best selling recording artists at that time.[3] The awards were presented to Michael Jackson[4] and Mariah Carey[5] in the male and female artist award categories.
