History

Watpac was founded in Brisbane, Queensland as Watkins Pacific in 1983. It is completed construction of the Brisbane Entertainment Centre before listing on the ASX in 1985. Since then, Watpac has grown with acquisitions of Grant Constructions (2004), JA Dodd (2007) and JMS (2008) to also be involved in mining service, civil infrastructure and civil landscaping and operates across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. BESIX Group has been a major shareholder since 2013. On November 13th, 2018, Watpac announced that BESIX Group increased their participation from 28% to more than 50%, acquiring a majority of the shares. BESIX Group promised to keep Watpac as a separate entity. [2]

Sponsorships

From 2017, Watpac became the title sponsor of the Supercars Championship event the Townsville 400.[3]
