Vijith Malalgoda

Vijith K. Malalgoda is a judge from Sri Lanka. He is a Puisne Justice of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka and former President of the Court of Appeal of Sri Lanka.[1]

Malalgoda studied at Dharmaraja College, Kandy.[2]

In October 2014, Malagoda's appointment to the role of President of the Court of Appeal by the then Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapakse was criticized by public litigation activist Nagananda Kodituwakku. Kodituwakku went on to refuse presenting a case with Malalgoda, stating that he'd lost trust and confidence in Malalgoda and therefore requested a different bench for the court proceedings. Both Malalgoda and Kodituwakku reported the case the to the then Chief Justice K Sripavan.[3]

In February 2016, Malalgoda was charged by Nagananda Kodituwakku for judicial corruption before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption for alleged favors to the former President Mahinda Rajapakse. This was following the handling of the Writ Application CA/Writ/434/2014 made by Nagananda which challenged the nomination of Mahinda Rajapaksa for a third term.[4] On 11 August 2017, the Registra of the Supreme Court issued a charge sheet to Kodituwakku following the complaint made by the Malalgoda. In March 2019 Kodituwakku was disbarred for a period of 3 years.[5]
