History

Vidin Airfield was built in 1973 as civilian airport with a 2,030 metre long runway.[3] It was served by small airplanes in the 1980s and was briefly shut down in 1998-1999 due to a land dispute between the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Agriculture.[2] In 2007, after investors showed interest for reopening the airport, the regional administration of Vidin undertook measures to revive it.
