V906 Carinae

V906 Carinae, or Nova Carinae 2018, was a nova in the Milky Way galaxy,[1] discovered on March 20, 2018 by the All Sky Automated Survey for SuperNovae.[2] Also known by its discovery designation of ASASSN-18fv,[3] it is located in the constellation Carina, near the 5th magnitude star HD 92063.[4]

Pre-discovery images were matched to a star of Gaia magnitude 20.1. On March 21, it had brightened to a Gaia magnitude 7.80 (visual magnitude 7.45),[4] and to magnitude 6.62 later the same day.[5]

Observation

On March 21, 2018 long exposure spectrographic measurements of ASASSN-18fv, specifically in the 3800Å to 7300Å range, were captured using CCD imaging. Detailed analysis of the spectral data confirmed that ASASSN-18fv exhibited characteristics of an impending classical nova.[6] Its photometry was taken at Hutton-Westfold Observatory at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.[5] A spectrum of ASASSN-18fv was obtained via the Las Campanas Observatory in La Serena, Chile.[4]
