Uppena

Uppena (transl. High tide) is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language film directed by Bucchi Babu Sana, and jointly produced by Sukumar Writings and Mythri Movie Makers.[1] The film features debutants Panjaa Vaisshnav Tej and Krithi Shetty in the lead roles, with Vijay Sethupathi playing a prominent role.[2] The music is composed by Devi Sri Prasad, with cinematography handled by Shamdat, and editing by Navin Nooli. It was planned to be released on 2 April 2020 but it has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Development

In January 2019, Mythri Movie Makers announced their new project in association with director Sukumar under his banner Sukumar Writings, which stars Panjaa Vaishnav Tej, brother of Sai Dharam Tej, in the lead role. The film is being helmed by Sukumar's assistant and newcomer Bucchi Babu Sana and music is composed by Devi Sri Prasad. The family members of Vaisshnav Tej, Chiranjeevi, Nagendra Babu, Allu Arjun and Sai Dharam Tej graced the event which took place on 21 January 2019.[5]

Casting

At the launch event Manisha Raj was announced as lead actress who is also a debutant.[5] In April 2019, Mythri confirmed that Vijay Sethupathi will be seen as antagonist in the movie.[6] However in May 2019, another debutant Krithi Shetty replaced Manisha as lead actress.[7]

Filming

The production on the film started in May 2019.[7] In 21 August 2019, Vijay Sethupathi joined on sets for filming his part in the movie. It was also revealed 40 percent of the movie was shot and filming was completed by October 2019.[8]

Devi Sri Prasad, was signed to compose the film's soundtrack album and background score. A glimpse of the first single "Nee Kannu Neeli Samudram" was unveiled on 1 March 2020, and the full song was released by Aditya Music, the following day, on 2 March 2020. The song was penned by Sri Mani and sung by Javed Ali, with Hindi lyrics were written by Raqueeb Alam and aalap by Srikanth Chandra.

Controversy

In July 2019, many reports broke saying Vijay Sethupathi walked out of the film. Later director Bucchi Babu has to clarify that's not the case and he will join filming the following month.[9]

Marketing and release

The first look poster, featuring Vaishnav Tej was released on 23 January 2020, and the first look of Krithi Shetty was released, on 24 January 2020.[10] The first glimpse for the film was released on 5 February 2020.[11] On 10 February 2020, two posters featuring Vijay Sethupathi, and the character he portrayed in this film was released by the makers. On 14 February 2020, on the occasion of Valentine's Day, two posters revealing the characters of lead pairs, were released. A new poster was released on 17 February 2020.
