The series is produced by World of Wonder Productions, which also produces RuPaul's Drag Race—a reality competition in which drag performers compete for titles and prizes.[2] UNHhhh premiered on March 25, 2016,[3] one year after Mattel and Zamolodchikova appeared in the seventh season of Drag Race.
World of Wonder distributes UNHhhh through its YouTube channel, as well as through its video-on-demand service WOW Presents Plus. The show was a competitor for "Show of the Year" at the 2017 Streamy Awards; the winner that year was the web series Alternative Lifestyle, produced by Sugar Pine 7.[4] In August 2017, World of Wonder announced The Trixie & Katya Show, a spin-off for broadcast on the TV channel Viceland.[5] The series returned to YouTube for its third season in October 2018 and concluded in December 2018.[6][7]
A fourth season aired from January to December 2019.[8] At the conclusion of the fourth season, Wow Presents announced that they would return for a fifth season.[9][10] On September 20, 2019, Trixie Mattel uploaded a video on her personal Twitter account, revealing that the series will return for a fifth season,[11] which premiered on January 22, 2020.[12] Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, filming of the show was put on hold.
