Tyger Valley

In the 2011 census, the name Tyger Valley was not added to the census, however the areas that comprise of Tyger Valley which were in the 2011 census are Alf Blv., Bellville Park, Bo Oakdale, Danena, Hume, O'Kennedyville, Rosenpark and Stellenbosch University.[2][3]

Tygervalley includes three main shopping centres: Tygervalley Shopping Centre, the Willowbridge Shopping Centre and High Street. [4][5]

Out of the two, Tygervalley Shopping Centre is the largest and it is also the 2nd largest in Cape Town. Tygervalley Centre has over 250 stores including cinemas and a theatre, the Barnyard Theatre. [6][7]

Adjacent to the Tygervalley Shopping Centre, is the Willowbridge Shopping Centre. It has 80 stores and is divided into a northern and southern part. It was the previous location of the Barnyard Theatre which is now in the Tygervalley Shopping Centre.[8]

High Street Shopping Complex is situated the northern area of Tygervalley on Durban Road. It includes different types of stores, restaurants and car delearships.[9]

Durban Road and Willie van Schoor Avenue are the main roads of Tygervalley and feature office buildings, shops and car dealerships. Durban Road is the north bound road (left lane) for the R302 and Willie van Schoor Avenue is the south bound road (right lane). Notable shopping facilities/car delearships adjacent or between Durban Rd/Willie v. Schoor Ave include KFC, McDonald's, Nando's, Vida e Caffè, Standard Bank, Kwikspar, Mini Cooper, BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, Peugeot and Citroën amongst others.[10][11][12][13][14][15]

Tygervalley is also a major financial and business district, quite similar to Sandton near Johannesburg and is a major commercial node of Cape Town. Insurance companies, Santam and Metropolitan and medical scheme company, Prosano have their headquarters in Tygervalley. Sanlam Investments has its head offices in Tygervalley and its parent company Sanlam has its headquarters in Bellville Central. Major South African food company, Pioneer Foods, Petroleum Agency SA, financial services agency, PSG Konsult and Pepkor's IT division have their head offices in Tygervalley. Other companies that have regional offices in Tygervalley are LabourNet, Cartrack Western Cape, SANRAL Western Region and FedGroup.[16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24]

There are several office parks in Tygervalley including Old Oak Office Park, Tijger Park (1-5) and Tyger Waterfront, South Gate Waterfront, Tyger Falls. [25][26][27][28][29][30][31]

The Tyger Waterfront is a complex comprising of apartment buildings and office buildings. These two complexes are located on the banks of a 4 ha man-made lake. [34]

This area also includes restaurants such as Bossa, Cattle Baron Steak House and Copper Club amongst others. [35]

Cool Runnings is the only toboggan park in Africa located on the western side of the valley on the slopes of the Durbanville hills.[36]

The Stellenbosch University has its Bellville Park campus along the N1. The Bellville Velodrome is also located in Tygervalley and Intercare has a sub-acute hospital near Tygervalley Shopping Centre. [37][38]
