Trans-Sulawesi Railway

The Trans-Sulawesi Railway (Indonesian: Jalur kereta api Trans-Sulawesi), is a railway network under construction in the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. The construction is divided to three phases.

The first phase includes 146 kilometers route from Makassar to Pare-pare.

The Trans-Sulawesi Railway are built with 1,435 mm (4 ft 8 1⁄2 in) standard gauge which is wider than the 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) cape gauge used in Java and Sumatra to accommodate more weight and speed.[1][2]

Routes

Makassar-Parepare

The ground breaking of this route was conducted in 18 August 2014 in, Siawung Village, Barru District, Barru Regency.

The first rail installation was done in Friday, 13 November 2015 in, Lalabata Village, Tanete Rilau District, Barru Regency. The rail installation was overseen by the Ministry of Transportation's Director General of Railway, Hermanto Dwiatmoko and the Governor of South Sulawesi, Syahrul Yasin Limpo.

This route is initially built as single track, but the lands acquired were for double track. There will be 23 stations in this route:

In December 2016, 16.1 kilometers track has been built. Government plans to build at least 30 kilometers track and operate it, while the rest will be offered to private companies with Public Service Obligation scheme.[3]

44 km of the railway, connecting Barru to Palanro is targeted to operate in the end of 2018.[4] The entire Makassar-Parepare railway, with a length of 150 km, will be completed in 2019.[5]

Manado-Bitung

Currently this 48 km route is under the land acquisition phase, the construction is planned to begin from 2017 to 2018.

Bitung-Gorontalo

Currently this 340 km route is under the land acquisition phase, the construction is planned to begin from 2017 to 2019.
