Viggiano became the first four year varsity lettermen and first ice hockey player to be inducted into the Kent State University Varsity-K Sports Hall of Fame. Viggiano played his junior hockey with the Detroit Jr. Red Wings and Redford Royals of the Great Lakes Jr. Hockey League (GLJHL). While Viggiano was considered for the position it ultimately went to Bill Switaj.[3] After his college coaching career, Viggiano in 1998-99 became the co-head coach of Detroit Compuware in the Tier II NAJHL hockey league where Compuware posted a 72-2-2 record. In his 1989-90 NAJHL campaign, Viggiano helped lead Compuware to a 38-7-4 record.
