In the US, the single reached number sixty-one on the Billboard Hot 100, number eight on the Hot R&B Songs chart.[1] "The Right Kinda Lover" was Patti LaBelle's second number one on the Hot Dance/Club Play chart.[2] Overseas, the single and also reached number fifty on the UK Top 75 and was her most successful in years. The song's video featured LaBelle performing as a seductress choosing her choice of mate.
