Plot

Mr. Pezzella (Toto) owns and runs a successful luxury clothes shop. He does not like and does not consider right to pay taxes, hence why he hires a tax consultant (interpreted by Louis de Funès) to evade taxes more easily. Unfortunately for Pezzella, the Guardia di Finanza orders an inspection, sending Marshal Topponi (Aldo Fabrizi) and Brigadier Bardi. This event sets off Pezzella's attempts (guided by the advice of his incompetent tax consultant) to bribe the marshal, sometimes openly declaring his intentions through an excessive dose of servility. These clumsy attempts will cause the marshal many issues, due to Pezzella's intrusiveness, while also constantly backfiring against the former. In the end, Topponi completes his report, which would force Pezzella to pay a 15 million lire fine. However, Pezzella does not give up, and decides to take an extreme measure: a plan to steal the marshal's bag, with the report inside. But in the end, perhaps moved by the pity for Topponi - should he get in trouble With the finanza because of the loss of the bag - and thanks the advice of a priest, Pezzella returns the bag. After several issues, Topponi and Pezzella finally become friends, and even father in-laws: in fact, Pezzella's clumsy attempts to fool Topponi allowed his son to date the marshal's daughter.
