The Beginning of the Enz

The Beginning of the Enz is a 1979 release from New Zealand rock group Split Enz. The album is a collection of songs from the early days of the band. Several of these songs, such as 129, Lovey Dovey and Spellbound were later re-recorded and included on albums such as Mental Notes and Second Thoughts.

The album reached #35 in New Zealand, but did not chart in Australia.

An unrelated compilation album, Beginning of the Enz (dropping "The" from the title), was released in England in 1980 by Chrysalis Records and mainly included tracks from 1976's Second Thoughts and 1977's Dizrythmia. It also included the first album appearance of the 1977 non-album single "Another Great Divide".
