Season chronology

The sixth season (subtitled Fast Forward or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fast Forward) originally aired between July 29, 2006 and October 27, 2007, beginning with the "Future Shellshock" episode.[1] It also includes recreated designs for all returning characters.

This season mostly takes place in 2105 New York City, with plots such as Sh’Okanabo's attempts to unleash the "Day of Awakening"; the Turtles’ attempts to expose Darius Dunn's criminal activities, and to return to their own time; and Cody Jones’ growth. Due to the multispecies population of the future, the Turtles are now free to move about openly and interact with everyday people. The season is lighter in tone and less violent than previous ones, with a greater emphasis on jokes.

The season was originally going to air one year later, but to try to increase interest in the series, 4Kids and FOX started airing this season a year earlier instead of the "Ninja Tribunal" arc. This season became the fifth season to air on commercial television even though it was the sixth season produced. After the scheduling change was made, Mirage and its partners decided to finish production on the "Ninja Tribunal" episodes and release them directly to DVD. 4Kids Entertainment later signed a deal with Comcast and this season began airing on Comcast-On-Demand in August 2006. Thus mass confusion has ensued regarding which season is officially season five and which is season six. Chronologically this season comes after the "Ninja Tribunal" season.[1]

The episodes were released in partial season sets. Volume 1, named "TMNT Fast Forward: Future Shellshock!", was released on February 6, 2007, and had the first thirteen episodes, and volume 2, named "TMNT Fast Forward: Day of the Awakening", was released on August 7, 2007, and had the remaining thirteen.

Story

During an ordinary day, Splinter and the Turtles are suddenly transported through time to New York City in the year 2105 by Cody Jones, a descendant of Casey Jones and April O'Neil. Cody intended to build a "time window", which could allow him to simply observe past escapades of the Turtles, but an unforeseen complication turned it into a time travel-capable machine, which is in disrepair after bringing Splinter and the Turtles to the future. At Cody's insistence, Splinter and the Turtles begin to live with him until the time window can be repaired, also contending with Cody's uptight robotic butler, Serling. However, during their time with Cody, the group comes into conflict with Darius Dunn, Cody's uncle and CEO of O'Neil Tech, who is in actuality a crime boss seeking to wrest complete control of the company from Cody. On several occasions, Dunn attempts to kill the Turtles, attempts that do not go unnoticed by them, who resolve to keep a wary eye on the villain, while Cody remains ignorant of his uncle's true nature.

The Turtles also gain a new nemesis in the form of Sh'Okanabo, an alien warlord who seeks to conquer the Earth so his species, the Kanabo, can reproduce and thrive on the planet. Sh'Okanabo enters a partnership with Dunn, both seeking to destroy the Turtles, and Sh'Okanabo creates the Dark Turtles, which are four malicious clones of the Turtles to battle them. Dunn also gives Sh'Okanabo the plans to Cody's time window, and the alien is able to manufacture a second one, but it malfunctions, creating a storm of time windows that transport beings from all across time in New York - resulting in a brief face-off between the Turtles and the Shredder from their time, before he is returned to his own time. The Turtles, Cody and Sh'Okanabo are briefly able to repair the villain's time window, but it malfunctions yet again, seemingly killing the alien warlord.

To his horror, Cody discovers his uncle's villainous nature when he uncovers a secret weapon factory that Dunn had kept hidden from Cody. When Dunn's plans are revealed, he faces off with Cody before fleeing in the wake of defeat, leaving Cody as the CEO of O'Neil Tech. Dunn quickly returns with a vengeance, hijacking Cody's Turtle X battle armor and going on a rampage. Serling manages to save Cody from his uncle, albeit at the cost of his own life, though he's soon repaired and converted into a second iteration of the Turtle X armor to better protect his young charge. Dunn goes into hiding with the Dark Turtles in the meantime.

The Turtles also discover that Agent Bishop has survived to 2105, thanks to his cloning-induced longevity. Bishop has undergone a change of heart after a lab accident which saw Baxter Stockman go missing, and instead of hunting aliens, he has become the President of the Pan-Galactic Alliance (or "PGA" for short), a United Nations type coalition between Earth and all peaceful alien races. Stockman is revealed to have survived the lab incident, and after nearly killing Bishop in retaliation, he reforms as well, entering a renewed partnership and friendship with his old ally. Bishop summons the Turtles to aid him in venturing to an Earth base on the Moon, which has lost contact with Earth. The group discovers that Sh'Okanabo survived the destruction of the time window, and has taken up residence on the dark side of the moon, plotting to block out the sunlight to engineer his "Day of Awakening", but is soon stopped by the combined efforts of the Turtles, Bishop and Cody.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fast Forward was produced by Mirage Studios, 4 Kids Entertainment, 4Kids Productions, and Dong Woo Animation and distributed by 4 Kids Entertainment and was aired on Fox's Saturday morning kids' block in the US.[2] The producers were Gary Richardson, Frederick U. Fierst, and Joellyn Marlow for the American team; Tae Ho Han was the producer for the Korean team.[2]

In the middle of a particularly heated argument (over which TV programmes to watch), the Turtles and Splinter are abruptly transported to the year 2105 by a time machine unwittingly created by Cody Jones, heir to the vast O'Neil-Jones business empire and descendant of April and Casey. Upon their arrival, the Turtles quickly get separated — and minutes later, Mikey finds himself ambushed by a horde of mysterious, cloaked figures: The Street Phantoms, led by the cyborg Jammerhead. His terrapin brothers must first rendezvous with a fussy English-accented robot called Serling, meet Cody and adapt to their new surroundings before setting out on a desperate rescue mission.

Raphael is impatient with the highly automated future - especially when Cody builds the Turtles a fancy new Dojo complete with realistic holographic simulation battle programs. Raph's worst fears are realized when the simulations are turned into a high-tech deadly prison, and the Turtles have to fight for their lives. One battle simulation with attack drones was based entirely on Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa.

When he sees an ad for a pro-wrestling tournament, a homesick Raph can't resist. Leo tags along at Splinter's suggestion. However, it turns out that wrestling 22nd century-style is more about body language than actual physical fighting, but things are livened up when Triple Threat, a banned wrestler with three bickering heads, crashes the arena to prove himself and steal the box office receipts. It's up to Raph and Leo to stop the crazed powerhouse any which way they can.

Mikey, obsessed with the video game Helix, goes crackers when he finds out that the sequel is being released. But at the mall, Jammerhead and the Street Phantoms hijack the delivery trucks full of Helix 2! When the Turtles are framed by Jammerhead for the crime, Cody steps in sporting his own personal Turtle-Armor to save the day and shows Constable Biggles a video that show the Turtles are innocent! Back at Cody's building they thank Cody for helping them, then Starlee show up and tells Cody how romantic he is and to give Mikey the Helix 2 game.

They find Jammerhead and destroy Bodyjacker device and Constable Biggles put Jammerhead in jail.

After an outing downtown, Mikey starts behaving strangely as in super strength, green-slime-spewing strangely. Sh’Okanabo has begun his first test of introducing the seeds into the general population in order to propagate his alien race, transforming ordinary folks into monstrous Kanabo drones! But will our heroes be able to stop him before becoming "implanted" themselves?
