Teddy (film)

Teddy is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language kids animation film written and directed by Shakti Soundar Rajan. The film stars Teddy in the titular role as a special character while Arya along with Sayyeshaa feature in the lead roles. Sathish, Sakshi Agarwal and Magizh Thirumeni play supporting roles in the film. The music is composed by D. Imman and film is produced by K. E. Gnanavel Raja under his production banner Studio Green. The film is speculated to be the Tamil remake of 2012 Hollywood film Ted. It is the first Tamil film to use an Indian animation company to design a special animated character and it is also only the second Kollywood film after Kochadaiiyaan to use motion-capture technology.[1][2]

The film was announced by director Shakti Soundar Rajan in March 2019 which also marked his fifth directorial venture and maiden collaboration with actor Arya.[3] The principal photography of the film commenced in May 2019. It was revealed that the shooting commenced briefly on 10 March 2019 coincidentally on the wedding day of Arya and Sayyeshaa but the full-fledged shooting of the film began in May 2019.[4][5] The film is also the first film as real life couples for Arya and Sayyeshaa after their marriage in 2019.[6] Sakshi Agarwal was approached to play a supporting role after participating in the reality TV show Bigg Boss Tamil 3.[7]

Director Magizh Thirumeni who was known for his directorial Thadam was cast to play a supporting role which also marked his acting debut.[8][9] The theme of the film revolves around the special character Teddy Bear in animation which would appear for nearly 80 minutes of the film. The film was predominantly shot in Chennai and in few areas across Europe.[10]

The shooting procedure of the film was wrapped up as of December 2019.[11][12][13] The first look poster of the film featuring teddy bear was unveiled on 10 December 2019 and the official teaser of the film was unveiled on 10 March 2020.[14][15]

The soundtrack of the film is composed by D. Imman, continuing his collaboration with the director for the third time after Miruthan (2016) and Tik Tik Tik (2018). The lyrics are written by Madhan Karky. The first single En Iniya Thanimaye which was sung by Sid Sriram was released on 14 February 2020 coinciding with the Valentine's Day.[16][17]
