In 2011-12, it was the third-least-used station on Melbourne's metropolitan network, with 69,000 passenger movements.[2]

When the station opened, it was on the Upper Ferntree Gully - Gembrook narrow gauge line. It closed, along with the rest of the line, on 30 April 1954, but reopened on 19 February 1962, after the line as far as Belgrave was converted to broad gauge.[1]

The platform was used in a short cameo in the 2012 telemovie Underground: The Julian Assange Story, and Metlink signs and tactile tiles are visible in the film.
