Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet

Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet (TGIM) is a business summit organised by the Government of Tamil Nadu in Chennai, to attract domestic and foreign investment in the state. It was first held in 2015. The latest edition held in 2019, enabled signing of 304 MoUs and potential investments worth 300,431 crore (US$42 billion).[1][2]

Highlights

First edition

In 2015, the first edition of the Global Investors Meet was organised on guidance of then chief minister of Tamil Nadu, J. Jayalalithaa. More than 5000 delegates attended it, signing over 100 MoUs. It has attracted ₹2.40 lakh crore of investment.

Second edition

The second edition was held on 23rd and 24th January 2019 in Chennai Trade Center.[4] Signings of 304 MoUs and potential investments worth 300,431 crore (US$42 billion) were made.[1] Adani Group and Indian Oil Corporation committed to invest 28,000 crore (US$3.9 billion). The majority of Adani's investment is to make the Kattupalli shipyard a major multipurpose port by increasing its current capacity up to 12 times.[5]

Japan announced that All Nippon Airways (ANA) will start daily direct flights between Narita and Chennai to increase air connectivity to India.[6]
