History

Doug Bauer, Tom Mitchell, and Mike Grubbs founded TRI Pointe Homes in 2009. The company partnered with Starwood Capital in its initial stages.[4] In January 2013, TRI Pointe Homes went public – the first home building company to do so since 2004.[4][5]

TRI Pointe provides its builders with resources through programs such as LivingSmart, which focuses on sustainability and environmental impact, and HomeSmart, which focuses on in-home technology. For example, using the HomeSmart program, Quadrant Homes – one of the group's subsidiaries – offers Internet-enabled doorbell cameras, thermostats, and Amazon Alexa-enabled devices for voice control capability of the products.[6][7]

In October, 2018, TRI Pointe announced a new division in Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina. Gray Shell will be operating as division president in both Raleigh and Charlotte until the first homes in the area close in 2020.[8]

TRI Pointe Group operates six brands.[9][10]

  • Maracay in Arizona

Winchester Homes

Winchester Homes is a member of TRI Pointe Group, Inc. The residential homebuilding company was founded in 1979 and is based in Bethesda, Maryland. The merger brought Winchester and four other homebuilding brands into TRI Pointe.[12]

The company offers single family and townhome communities in Anne Arundel, Montgomery, and Frederick counties in Maryland; Prince William, Loudoun counties in Northern Virginia.[13]

As of 2018, Winchester had built over 20,000 homes in the mid-Atlantic region.[14] Winchester builds different resources into its homes, using programs such as HomeSmart technology. HomeSmart provides a variety of home automation features.[15]

Each home is designed and built using the company's LivingSmart program. The program focuses on creating healthier, more comfortable environments and includes five components: EarthSmart, HealthSmart, EnergySmart, WaterSmart and HomeSmart.[16]

In 2018, TRI Pointe named Bradley W. Blank as the president of Winchester Homes. Blank previously served as TRI Pointe Group's vice president, general counsel and secretary.[17]

The company has constructed over 8,000 homes across Phoenix and Tucson.[27] Maracay uses programs like Flex! Design and LivingSmart to give homebuyers the ability to tailor homes to reflect personal lifestyles, and live in green houses.  Maracay first certified its homes under the Energy Star guidelines, and, as of 2017, follows LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification requirements.[28]

In 2018, Trendmaker donated funds to help create the nonprofit BuildAidHouston.org, which provides Houston homeowners with repairs following the destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey.[35]
