Overview

Formerly known as Terengganu Advanced Technical Institute (TATI), it was established on 11 June 1993, by the state of government of Terengganu, Malaysia.

UC TATI offers courses with hands-on practicals (70%) and theory (30%) in the fields of manufacturing technology (tool and die), electrical and automation technology, robotics, chemical & polymer technology, computer science, computer network (CISCO), information technology, graphic design & media and technology management.

History

Terengganu Advanced Technical Institute (TATI) was established to fulfil the needs of skilled manpower in Malaysia especially in the state of Terengganu. According to former Rector of TATI, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Nawi Derahman, the State Government agreed to establish a skills centre namely Terengganu Advanced Technical Institute (TATI) on 11th June 1993.

To assist the development and the operation of the institute, the State Government had established its first co-operation with Ingeneurschule St. Gallen (ISG), Switzerland. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 11 October 1993 between the State and ISG to establish courses in High Skills Diploma. Through the agreement, the ISG had agreed to provide expertise, technology and logistics facilities.

TATI received its first intake in 1993 with a group of 30 students at a temporary campus at Kolej Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (KUSZA) before relocated to the permanent campus in Teluk Kalong, Kemaman, in 1996. It was officiated by Dato 'Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the former 4th Prime Minister of Malaysia on 11 October 1997.

On 27th May 2008, TATI was upgrade its status to the university college, bearing the name of TATI University College (TATIUC). In 2011, 2013 and 2017, TATIUC gained a 4-stars rating in SETARA, a rating system for Malaysian Higher Education Institutions for universities and university colleges in Malaysia based on the quality of teaching and learning at the level of six (bachelor's degree) Malaysian Qualifications Framework (Malaysian Qualifications Framework MQF).

On 1st December 2019, TATIUC was officially renamed and is currently known as University College TATI (UC TATI).

Bachelor's Degree Programmes (TATIUC–UTM) - discontinued

TATI Double Degree Programme run-UTM was initially offered in July session 1996/1997. Among the courses conducted were Bachelor of Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic, and Integration of computer science degree. Each degree took four years, three years at TATI, and final year at UTM Skudai campus until the completion of the TATI campus.

Higher National Diploma (HND) - (in collaboration with EDEXCEL, UK) - discontinued

In 1999, TATI offered a twinning diploma program TATI–Edexcel (UK), known as the Higher National Diploma (HND) and commenced by enrolling the first group of students in July 1999. Courses offered were HDN in Manufacturing Engineering, HND in electrical engineering (Electrical And Electronic) and HND in Information Technology (Software Engineering) with a duration of 3 years at TATI Campus.

Pra TATI - KAT - discontinued

At the July session 1999/2000 Tati took the first group of students or student Pre-KMT Tati of 39 people, one-year program is conducted in collaboration between Tati and the International College of Terengganu (KAT) program is introduced with the aim to train students SPM school leavers who have no scientific or technical background. The program takes one year and conducted in KAT. When the siswa and the siswi successfully completed the course in KAT, they will be offered to further their studies to the year of the Tati (Main Campus) at the Diploma level.

Pra TATI–TESDEC [TESDEC] - discontinued

Tati had cooperated with the State of Terengganu Skills Development Centre (TESDEC) and introduced pre-TESDEC TATI in the field of mechatronics and "Tool and Dye". For the field of mechatronics, the program ran for six months. Successful students entered into the second semester of the diploma programme. The programme was commenced in November 1999 with 20 stdudent at TATI campus.
