Sultan (1999 film)

Sultan (English: King (of Muslim origin)) is a 1999 Telugu Action film, produced by M. R. V. Prasad under the P. B. R. Art Productions banner and directed by Sarath. The film stars an ensemble cast of Nandamuri Balakrishna, Krishna, Krishnam Raju, Roja, Rachana, Deepti Bhatnagar in the lead roles and music composed by Koti.[1][2] The film was released on 27 May 1999, met with mixed reviews from critics, but was well received by audiences and recorded as a Hit at the box office.

Plot

The films begin with the CBCID department of India appointing powerful officer Ashok (Krishna) to nab a hardcore notorious terrorist, Sultan (Nandamuri Balakrishna), who always hides his real identity in various forms of disguise. At present, there is a secret intelligence report that Sultan is going to attack a Minister, Venkataratnam (Gokina Ramaa Rao), so, Ashok is tabbed to safeguard him. Next day, when Ashok is patrolling Sultan arrives in the attire of an old man, blasts out the Minister and Ashok chases him, in the combat, Sultan escapes leaving his mask. However, Ashok finds out the real face of Sultan by computer graphics. Immediately, the same person joins as a forest officer as Prithvi Raj (again Nandamuri Balakrishna) who loves and marries a beautiful girl Renuka (Rachana). Soon after, once Ashok encounters Prithvi, arrests him, keeps at his secret custody and starts torturing. So, Renuka raises the issue to the higher authorities and the Government transfers the case to CBI department and a special officer Mustafa (Krishnam Raju) is delegated. Soon, when he is entrusted the mission, Mustafa gets a rude shock in the form of a bomb from Sultan, but he escapes and spots Sultan. Thereby, Mustafa gets confident that Prithvi & Sultan are two different people and tries to convince Ashok, but Ashok is not ready to accept when clash arises between them. Later on, they learn that Prithvi & Sultan are twins and Prithvi is adopted by an army officer Major Chakradhara Rao (Balayya). Thereupon, they make a strategy to catch Sultan by using Prithvi as a weapon. In the beginning, Prithvi doesn’t agree but understanding the virtue of his country, he gets ready for the mission. Without delay, Prithvi discovers Sultan has a girlfriend Vandana (Deepti Bhatnagar) tracing her, he successfully reaches Sultan’s house where he finds Sultan’s mother (Siva Parvathi) & wife Revati (Roja). In no time, Sultan realizes that something is amiss, so, he gives a counterattack in which Mustafa dies while protecting Prithvi. Parallelly, Sultan kidnaps Renuka, in a short while Ashok & Pruthvi too go after him where Ashok makes Sultan realizes that these militant organization is using him as the pawn for the destruction of the country. Finally, Sultan as a reformed person destroys all militant activities and protects the country by sacrificing his life.
