Sturton le Steeple

Sturton le Steeple is a village located 6 miles east of Retford, Nottinghamshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population (including Littleborough, Notts) of 497,[2] reducing slightly to 486 as at the 2011 Census.[3]

The parish church of St Peter and St Paul has a 14th-century tower with 12 pinnacles. The rest of the church was rebuilt after a fire in 190102.[4] The church contains a marble slab marking the final resting place of the well-known Parliamentary commander Francis Thornhagh

Pastor John Robinson was born in Sturton Le Steeple about 1576, the first child of John and Ann Robinson. John Robinson was the founder of the Pilgrims who sailed to North America in the Mayflower.
