Steve Davies (rugby league)

Steve Davies (birth unknown) is a former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. He played at club level for Wigan (Heritage No. 718),[2] Penrith Panthers (Heritage No. 230) and Leigh (Heritage No. 941),[3][4] as a centre, i.e. 3 or 4.[1][5]

County Cup Final appearances

Steve Davies played left-centre, i.e number 4, (replaced by interchange/substitute John Burke on 59-minutes) in Wigan's 13-16 defeat by Workington Town in the 1977–78 Lancashire County Cup Final during the 1977–78 season at Wilderspool Stadium, Warrington, on Saturday 29 October 1977, in front of crowd of 9,548.

Club career

Steve Davies made his début for Wigan as an interchange/Substitute in the 40-5 victory over Keighley at Central Park, Wigan on 19 April 1975, he scored his first try for Wigan in the 19-18 victory over Widnes at Central Park, Wigan on 12 September 1976, he scored his last try for Wigan in the 30-2 victory over Doncaster in the John Player Trophy Round-1 match at Tattersfield, Doncaster on 24 September 1978, and he played his last match for Wigan in the 9-17 defeat by Salford in the John Player Trophy Round-1 match at The Willows, Salford on 23 November 1980.[5]
