History

In 1995, a group of Hindus started gathering to worship informally in Downtown Anchorage. In 1999, the group began renting a room in the Church of Religion Science, and Sivaya Subramuniyaswami donated a Ganesha murti. In March 2000, the Sri Ganesha Temple of Alaska was registered as a non-profit charity and religious organization with the IRS.[5] In 2003, the organization decided to create a Hindu temple and purchased a property on Raspberry Road. They renovated the property, installed several murtis, and opened it as a Hindu temple in 2011.[6]
