Siena International Photo Awards

The Siena International Photo Awards (SIPAContest) is a photography competition for professional, amateur and student photographers from around the world. It is judged by an international panel of experts that includes renowned photographers, editors and photography collectors. First presented in 2015, by their second year the awards and the associated Siena Awards Festival in Siena, Italy, were considered prestigious.[1][2]

According to the organizers, SIPA (Siena International Photo Awards) is part of a broader project of the Siena Awards. It represents an effort to bring people together from all around the world who are passionate not only about photography, but global connection, cultural exchange and art as a catalyst for change.

Il Siena International Photo Awards (SIPAContest) è un concorso fotografico per fotografi professionisti, dilettanti e amatori provenienti da tutto il mondo. La giuria internazionale è composta da esperti del settore tra cui fotografi di fama, editori e collezionisti. Dopo la prima edizione del 2015, già dal secondo anno il concorso ed il Siena Awards Festival ad esso associato, sono considerati di rilievo.

Il SIPA (Siena International Photo Awards) è parte del più ampio progetto dei Siena Awards. Esso rappresenta lo sforzo di radunare da tutto il mondo persone appassionate non soltanto alla fotografia, ma anche a scambi culturali e all’arte in generale, come occasione di scambio e cambiamento.

History

Siena International Photo Awards was created by Luca Venturi as part of the mission of the Art Photo Travel Association, a non-profit organization based in Siena, Italy. The awards were first presented on October 30, 2015.

Il Siena International Photo Awards è stato creato da Luca Venturi come parte della missione dell’Associazione Art Photo Travel, organizzazione no profit con sede a Siena, Italia. La prima edizione degli Awards è stata presentata il 30 ottobre 2015.

Award ceremony

The awards ceremony takes place in Siena at the Teatro dei Rozzi, Siena theatre. On the day of the ceremony, the Siena International Photographer of the Year and other award-winning images are announced. Following the awards ceremony, the "Imagine All the People Sharing All the World" photography exhibition honoring the winners opens its doors in Siena. A book featuring all prize-winning entries is published annually in two languages (Italian and English).

Cerimonia di premiazione

La cerimonia di premiazione si svolge a Siena al Teatro dei Rozzi. In occasione della cerimonia vengono annunciati il Fotografo dell’Anno e le altre immagini vincitrici. Viene quindi inaugurata la mostra "Imagine All the People Sharing All the World" dove sono esposte le opere vincitrici. Ogni anno viene inoltre pubblicato un volume bilingue (italiano e inglese) con tutte le immagini premiate.

Contest

The winning images are selected by a professional jury (including photographers from National Geographic and the BBC)[3] from among thousands of entries (2019: approximately 50,000, according to the SIPAContest team), received from all over the world.

An exhibition of the winning and honorable mention images, named "Beyond The Lens," is located each year at the exhibition space of the former distillery "Lo Stellino." In 2019 the exhibition was entitled "Imagine all the people sharing all the world."

A book of winning entries and runners-up has been published each year since 2015.

Contest

Le immagini vincitrici sono selezionate da una giuria professionale (tra gli altri, fotografi del National Geographic e della BBC) tra migliaia di foto partecipanti (2019: circa 50.000 immagini, secondo gli organizzatori del SIPA) provenienti da tutto il mondo.

I vincitori di ogni categoria sono premiati con il Premio Pangea e competono tra loro per aggiudicarsi il massimo riconoscimento di Fotografo dell’Anno.

Una mostra di tutte le immagini vincitrice e delle menzioni d’onore dal titolo “Beyond the Lens” viene ospitata ogni anno nello spazio espositivo delle ex-distillerie “Lo Stellino” a Siena. Dal 2019 la mostra è stata intitolata "Imagine all the people sharing all the world".

Dal 2015 viene pubblicato annualmente un volume fotografico dal titolo “Beyond the Lens” che raccoglie tutte le immagini vincitrici e le menzioni d’onore.

The 2016 awards ceremony was celebrated at the Teatro dei Rozzi on October 29.[1][2] The competition for the 2016 awards began in December 2015.

Judges for the competition included Melissa Farlow of National Geographic.[5] Greg Lecoeur's winning photograph was of gannets diving for sardine off the coast off South Africa.[6] The same photograph won National Geographic's Photographer of the Year contest.[7]
