Siddharth Anand

Siddharth Anand is an Indian film writer and director. Regarded as one of the most famous action filmmakers in the Hindi film industry, he started his career as an assistant director on the 2001 film Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi and then wrote Hum Tum (2004) before making his directorial debut with the romantic comedy Salaam Namaste (2005), the highest earning film of the year abroad, in which he also had a special role. After directing Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007), Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008) and Anjaana Anjaani (2010), he gained recognization helming the action films Bang Bang! (2014) and War (2019), both of which rank among the highest-grossing Indian films. His work in the latter garnered Anand a Filmfare Award for Best Director nomination.

Life

Anand's father, Bittu, is an Indian producer who is known for producing Amitabh Bachchan-starrer action drama Shahenshah. His uncle, Tinnu Anand, is a prominent Hindi film actor who has appeared in films such as Anjaam, Dabangg, Hasee Toh Phasee and Saaho. Anand is the grandson of screenwriter Inder Raj Anand, writer of more than 120 films including Safar and Ek Duuje Ke Liye.

Career

Anand began his film career by assisting Rahul Rawail on his film Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi, that starred Kajol. He then co-wrote the 2004 hit Hum Tum along with Kunal Kohli and also worked as an executive producer and associate director on the film.

When 27, Anand directed Salaam Namaste, starring Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta. The film was one of the biggest hits worldwide of 2005 and it established him as a major director in the Hindi film industry.

Anand's second venture, Ta Ra Rum Pum was released in April 2007. The film stars Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji and was a semi hit at the box office. Anand's third one Bachna Ae Haseeno starring Bipasha Basu, Minissha Lamba, Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor released on 15 August 2008. The film ran successfully worldwide and was a hit.

These three films were part of his contract with Yash Raj Films.

His fourth film Anjaana Anjaani, starred Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles, and was produced by Sajid Nadiawala. It was released worldwide on 1 October 2010, after a one-week delay. The film was a box office success.[1]

Anand has worked with music composer duo Vishal-Shekhar in four of his films with all albums becoming popular.

Anand's fifth film Bang Bang!, an official adaptation of Knight and Day, starring Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif was released on 2 October 2014 and was a worldwide hit. The film's overseas collections is the highest ever for a Hrithik Roshan film.

Anand then directed Yash Raj Films's War starring Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff and Vaani Kapoor released on 2 October 2019.[2]

Anand will next be directing and producing Rambo, a Bollywood remake of Sylvester Stallone's Rambo,[3] which will begin filming towards the end of 2019.[4] He will also do an action thriller film with Shah Rukh Khan and will be produced by Yash Raj Films.[5]

Personal life

Anand is married to Mamta Bhatia-Anand and they have a son named Ranveer (RV), whose name was the base of Saif Ali Khan's character in Ta Ra Rum Pum.
