Siddhanta Mahapatra

Siddhanta Mahapatra (born 4 May 1966) is an Indian film actor and political figure from the state of Odisha in India. He made his film debut in Sradhanjali. He was elected to the 15th and 16th Lok Sabha in 2009 and 2014 respectively as a member of the Parliament of India.He has won 7 Odisha State Film Awards.He is considered as one of the most popular actors of Odia film industry.

Early life

Siddhanta was born in a Brahmin family at Brahmapur, Odisha.[1] He completed his schooling from St. Vincent's Convent School, Berhampur, and did his under graduation (known as Plus-Two in Odisha) and graduation in commerce from D.D. College, Keonjhar. He completed his master's degree from the Institute of Marketing and Management, Delhi. Both his father, Dr. Manmohan Mohapatra, and his mother are doctors. He is married to former actress Mama Mishra, and has a daughter Saisiddhi Mahapatra.

Career

His first Odia film came in 1993 at the age of 27 at the behest of his cousin brother. He has acted in more than 150 films. His debut film, Shradhanjali, starred Lekha Nanda as the female lead.[2]

Political career

He joined Biju Janata Dal in 2009 and contested as MP from Berhampur constituency in the 2009 "15th Lok Sabha" Election. He won the election and is the Member of Parliament for Berhampur constituency. He won the 2014 General election for the second time by a thumping margin of nearly 1 lakh votes amidst stiff competition from UPA and NDA and retained his seat.[3][4][5][6]
