Shireen Akhter

Shireen Akhter (born 1 May 1956)[1] is a Bangladeshi academic and the first female vice chancellor of the University of Chittagong.[2][3][4][5] She started worked as a VC of University of Chittagong on 3 November 2019.[2] Lone female member of Election Commission (EC) Search committee Akhter joined CU as a lecturer of Bangla department in 1996.[6]

Biography

Akhter was born at Eid Gao in Cox's Bazar on 1 May 1956.[7] Her father was Afsar Kamal Chowdhury and mother was Begum Lutfunnahar Kamal. Her husband is Latiful Alam Chowdhury. She is mother of one son and one daughter.

Professional career

Akhter joined the university as a lecturer of Bangla Department in 1996 after completing her PhD from Jadavpur University in India. On her appointment, she told bdnews24.com that she would try to develop |Chittagong University as a "source of vast knowledge" in according with the spirit of the Liberation War.[8]
