Scott DeRue

Scott DeRue (born c. 1977) is an American professor and academic administrator. He is the Stephen M. Ross Professor of Management and the Edward J. Frey Dean of the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, U.S.

Early life

Scott DeRue was born circa 1977 in Milledgeville, Georgia.[1] He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned a bachelor in business administration.[2] In 2007, he subsequently earned a PhD from the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University.[2]

Career

DeRue began his career at the Monitor Group, now known as Monitor Deloitte.[2] He subsequently worked "in private equity, investment banking and as a marketing executive for a luxury yacht builder."[1]

DeRue began his career in academia at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan as an assistant professor of management in 2007.[2] He subsequently became an associate professor and director Emerging Leaders Program and the Sanger Leadership Center, until he was promoted as full professor of management.[2] He later served as the associate dean for Executive Education.[2]

In September 2016, DeRue succeeded Alison Davis-Blake as the dean of the Ross School of Business.[1][3] In March 2017, he suggested UM should develop a service like Spotify to stream business lectures online and sell credits to its viewers.[4]

DeRue is the co-author of a book on leadership. He has co-authored several blog posts for the Harvard Business Review, and published in the Academy of Management Review, the Academy of Management Journal, and the Journal of Applied Psychology.[2]

DeRue is also a managing partner of ChiBor Angels, an angel investment firm.[5]

Personal life

DeRue is married to Kathy, a doctor.[1] He climbed Mount Everest in 2013.[1]
