Sandeep Dikshit

Sandeep Dikshit (born 15 August 1964) is an Indian politician, development manager and educator. He is the son of former Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit. He was a member of the 15th Lok Sabha of India.[1] He represented the East Delhi constituency of Delhi and is a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party.[2]

Early life

Sandeep Dikshit was born to former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Vinod Dikshit,[3] an IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre. His grandfather Uma Shankar Dikshit was a part of the freedom struggle for 30 years who was closely associated with Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

He attended St. Joseph's Boys' High School, Bangalore and Modern School, New Delhi, and holds a master's degree in History from St. Stephen's College, Delhi. He received his Post-Graduate Diploma in Rural Management in 1989 at the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA).

Career

Sandeep Dikshit headed a social development group, SANKET, which pioneered the first sub-national Human Development Report in the world in 1996. Sandeep has worked on rural development and human development issues for the last 15 years in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Sandeep Dikshit represented the East Delhi Parliamentary constituency in the 15th Lok Sabha.

He is currently an Adjunct Faculty at O. P. Jindal Global University, Sonepat. He teaches human development and public policy in the Jindal School of Government and Public Policy.

In June 2017, he triggered a controversy when he likened behavior by Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat to that of a "goon on the street" and apologized later via Twitter.[4]

Personal life

Sandeep Dikshit is married to Mona Dikshit.[3] They have a daughter.[3]
