Sami Abu Shehadeh

Sami Abu Shehadeh (Arabic: سامي ابو شحادة‎, Hebrew: סאמי אבו שחאדה‎) is an Israeli Arab politician. He is currently a member of the Knesset for the Joint List.[1]

Biography

Abu Shehadeh studied for a master's degree in Middle Eastern history at Tel Aviv University, and wrote a doctorate on Jaffa as a cultural center during the British Mandate.[2]

Abu Shehadeh is a member of the annual meeting of Mada al-Carmel, an Arab Center for Applied Social Research, which deals with research and policy on Israeli Arabs, and strongly criticizes the Israeli government's policy.

Political career

Abu Shehadeh was a member of the Tel Aviv-Jaffa City Council[3] for a number of years until 2013, on behalf of the Jafa faction.

In the elections for the 22nd Knesset, he was placed third on the Balad list following the retirement of Mazen Ghnaim, and after uniting with the other Arab parties, he was placed 13th on the Joint List.[4]

Personal life

Abu Shehada lives in Tel Aviv.[5] In June 2020 he tested positive for COVID-19.
