Swope was drafted in the 6th round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals.

On July 25, 2013, the Cardinals announced that Swope was placed on the reserve/retired list due to the ongoing concussion issues.[5] Even though he is retired, he was on the reserve/retired list and the Cardinals had rights to him if he came out of retirement. They lost his rights when his rookie contract eventually ended.
