Royal Calcutta Golf Club

Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC) in Kolkata, India was established in 1829 and is the oldest golf club in India and the second outside Great Britain.

RCGC has an 18-hole golf course with the following detail:[2]

• Mostly flat terrain, small greens and natural water hazards.

The Royal Calcutta Golf Club is the second oldest golf club outside the United Kingdom ( Ratto Farm GC laid out in Australia by Reid family who emigrated from Scotland, in 1822 and is the oldest remaining golf club outside Great Britain ) The oldest club outside Scotland is The Royal Blackheath in London, established in 1766.

King George V and Queen Mary conferred the title "Royal" to the Club to commemorate their visit to Calcutta in 1911. Apart from golf, it offers tennis courts and a fine swimming pool. The Club also maintains a Lawn Bowls Pavilion in the Kolkata Maidan.

The most suitable time for play is October to March.[2]

The club is currently undergoing a series of makeovers to bring it up to contemporary world standards and to make the course one of the best and most sought after in Asia. It is trying to restore its image of being the St Andrews of Asia.
