Richard Martinez (politician)

Richard C. Martinez (born March 7, 1953) is a Democratic member of the New Mexico Senate, representing the 5th District since 2001.[1][2]

In March 2016, Martinez came under fire for a "racist Facebook post about Asian Americans." When asked about it by news media, Martinez reportedly refused to apologize. In June 2019 he was arrested and charged with DWI.[3]

In the 2020 Democratic primary, Martinez was defeated by Rio Arriba County Commissioner Leo Jaramillo, who was supported by progressives and attacked Martinez for his moderate voting record.[4]
