Career

Monzant was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela. A curveball specialist, he was slated to join a pitching rotation which included veterans Johnny Antonelli, Rubén Gómez and Sal Maglie. Unfortunately, he disappointed the Giants' great expectations for him. His main problem was staying focused in the game, and deciding whether to pitch for the Giants or stay in his homeland longer after the winter season. As a result, he was consistently late in reporting to spring training, claiming a variety of excuses.

His best performance took place on April 29, 1956, in a Giants 8–1 complete game victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, when a one-out, first inning-inning single by Del Ennis cost him a no-hitter.[3]

In a four-season career, Monzant compiled a 16–21 record with a 4.38 ERA and 201 strikeouts in 31623 innings.
