R1SE

R1SE is a Chinese idol boy band formed by Tencent through the 2019 reality show Produce Camp 2019 on Tencent Video. The group consists of eleven-members come from different companies: Zhou Zhennan, He Luoluo, Yan Xujia, Xia Zhiguang, Yao Chen, Zhai Xiaowen, Zhang Yanqi, Liu Ye, Ren Hao, Zhao Lei, Zhao Rang. They made their debut on June 8, 2019 with the single album, "R1SE".[1] R1SE is a time-limited boy band, and work as a group within 2 years.

Name

The band name, "R1SE" is the acronym for "Running", "Number 1", "Sun" and "Energy". The name also represents the will to improve and continue rising to become China's number one boy band.[2] Their name can be pronounced either as "R. One. S. E." (English: /ɑr, wʌn,ɛs,i/) or simply "RISE" (English: /ɹaɪz/).

Fan name

The official fan name for R1SE is "12" or "Twelve" (Chinese: 十二, pinyin: shí èr). Announced on the day R1SE debut for one month, "Twelve" means the connection between fans and R1SE group members, each fan is the twelfth member of R1SE; 12 also stands for the non-ending fondness, 12 months of the year, 12 zodiac signs of Chinese lunar calendar, "12" represents completeness of the group with fans. The Chinese characters of "Friends" (Chinese: 朋友) and "Family" (Chinese: 家人) have 12 strokes, meaning that fans of R1SE are both friends and family to R1SE group members.[3]

Support colors

The official support color scheme for R1SE is Daybreak (#FF3200 ) (#FF6D34 ) (#0DCAEF ), representing the color when the sun rise above the horizon, meaning to brave the wind and the waves while staying true to one's heart.[3][4]

History

Pre-debut
Main article: Produce Camp 2019

R1SE was formed through the reality television show Produce Camp 2019 aired from April 6 to June 8, 2019. It was the second season of Produce 101 China. On the live broadcast of the finals, it was announced that Zhou Zhennan placed first, followed by He Luoluo, Yan Xujia, Xia Zhiguang, Yao Chen, Zhai Xiaowen, Zhang Yanqi, Liu Ye, Ren Hao, Zhao Lei and Zhao Rang respectively.[5] The center and leader position was given to the first-place winner, Zhou Zhennan.[6]

2019–present: Debut with "R1SE"

On the day of their debut, they had their first showcase of their debut single, titled "R.1.S.E". The members collectively voted Zhou Zhennan as the leader of the band.

Their debut single "R.I.S.E" is a promotion song for the Men in Black: International movie in the China area.[7]

Their second recorded song, 《無愧》, is included in the Shanghai Fortress movie soundtrack.

They also released 《榮耀的戰場》 on July 24, 2019, for the Chinese television show The King's Avatar soundtrack.[8]

Group members He Luoluo, Zhai Xiaowen, Liu Ye, Ren Hao and Zhao lei recorded the promo and ending song 少年如故 for the season 2 of animation Mo Dai Zu Shi.

On August 6 2019, their first album, 《就要擲地有聲的炸裂》started presale.

On December 25 2019, group members He Luoluo, Yan Xujia, Zhai Xiaowen, Zhao Lei and Zhao Rang recorded the song 奇迹无限 for the 2020 film 《熊出没·狂野大陆》(Boonie Bears: The Wild Life).[9]
