Puttichanda Somaiah Ganapathi
Lieutenant Colonel Puttichanda Somaiah Ganapathi, MVC (7 November 1944 - ) was an officer of the Indian Army, who served with the 14th Mahar Regiment. He was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy, during Operation Pawan, as part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka.

Early life and education
Lieutenant Colonel Puttichanda Somaiah Ganapathi was born 7 November 1944 in Napoklu, Madikeri District. He completed his college studies before joining the Army, through Officers Training Academy (OTA), Madras.
Military career
Lieutenant Colonel Puttichanda Somaiah Ganapathi was commissioned into 14th Mahar Regiment.
In 1987, Lt Col Puttichanda Somaiah Ganapathi's battalion was deployed to Sri Lanka as part of the IPKF and was among the first units to be airlifted from Tiruchirapalli to Jaffna on 30th July, 1987. Lt Col Puttichanda Somaiah Ganapathi's battalion was tasked with The first batch of the peace-keeping force was airlifted from Tiruchirapalli to Jaffna on 30th July, 1987. He displayed exemplary courage during the operations to clear Jaffna of LTTE militants and the operations to capture Maruthanamadam and Anaicottai. For his exceptional courage and leadership, Lt Col Puttichanda Somaiah Ganapathi was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, the nation’s second highest gallantry award.[2]
