KFC

Popcorn chicken was invented by food technologist Gene Gagliardi.[2] It was test-marketed in the United States from March 1992, and had been launched nationwide by September 1992.[2] It has been periodically available in KFC outlets. It was re-introduced in the US in 1998, and again in 2001.[3] It was later re-introduced once again in 2015, under the name "KFC Popcorn Nuggets".

It is still available in the UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand. [4][5][6][7] As of 2018 it is also available in the Netherlands[8] and in France and Italy since 2019. [9]

The product is targeted at teenagers and young adults.[1]

Other versions

Taiwanese popcorn chicken (Chinese: 鹽酥雞; lit.: 'salt and pepper chicken') is a similar concept but uses different seasonings.
