Biography

He studied Art at the Istanbul State Fine Arts Academy and also finished courses there in Textile Design as well as cinema and television. From 1979-1980, he worked as a copywriter, and from 1980-1984 in the Grafika Lintas Advertising agency. In 1984, he founded his production company Sinegraf. In 2012, he received a special degree in cinema and television from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.[2]

Homophobia allegations

Osman Sınav received backlash from various LGBT organizations because of his anti-gay statements. In a joint statement, 8 LGBTQ institutions in Turkey urged Sınav to apologize for his remarks, in which had referred to homosexuals as "That type of people" and called them "immoral".[3]

Following the broadcast of a scene from the TV series Kılıç Günü on ATV, which involved two half-naked men in bed, he made these remarks while being interviewed by HT Magazin:[4]

We did not use these scenes for provocation. If we had such a goal, we would have given the images to the press before. In our story we are talking about Pharaoh's palace. There were such things in Pharaoh's palace. These were real. We are helping with character identification. In order to show goodness with all its beauty, it is necessary to show the darkness with all its nakedness. Otherwise it can't be 'good'. It remains shallow. We're trying to show things that no one dares [to show]. We do not propagate immorality, but rather display the profile of such people. To show these people and their immorality, we have to do something without going beyond the moral boundaries.
