Composition

"Noir" was written by Sunmi and produced by EL CAPITXN. The title of the song literally translates to black in French, but can also refer to Noir fiction, a subgenre of crime fiction characterized by its bleak and nihilistic tone.

It is described as a "electronic retro dance fusion with dreamy synths, disco drums, and trendy 808 bass".[2]

Critical reception

Tamar Herman from Billboard described the song as a "captivating, lo-fi pop track, which is a hot take on the perils of trying to live it up on social media".[3]

Promotion

Sunmi performed Noir at the music show M Countdown on April 11, 2019, and during her first world tour, 'Warning'.

Music video

The music video for the single was released on March 4, 2019. As of April 2020, it has over 22 million views on YouTube.[4]
