Neupane

Neupane (Nepali: नेउपाने) or Nyaupane (Nepali: न्यौपाने)or Hindi (हिन्दी- न्यूपाने) a surname found in mainly in Nepal and Significant community in India and Bhutan. It belongs predominantly to Brahmin (Bahun) and Kshatriya (Chhetri) of Nepal and Indian territory of Sikkim, Darjelling, Varanasi, Uttar pradesh, Uttrakhand, Assam Meghalaya and some are up to Bhutan and Myanmar. They belong to Kanyakubja Brahmans family of Panch Gaud Brahmans following Kaudilya/Kaudinya gotra, names after Sage Kaudilya. The surname Neupane is believed not very old title where Neu- refers to New and Pani means water. So, the kanyakujyas who migrated to the hills after Mugal and other Muslim Invasions in India put their title after they found the Naya pani (नई-पानी)means harvesting of new water sources later becomes Neupane. There are large number of inhabitants of surname Neupane, settled in various part of India, mostly in Sikkim, Darjelling and Assam. Some are also the inhabitants of Holy city Varanasi, Aayodhya and other places of Uttar Pradesh.Dehradun, Haridwar and Hills of Uttarakhand is also the home of Neupane Brahmans. Large number of Neupane Brahmans are settled in various part of Nepal. Few are found in Kingdom of Bhutan too.They belongs to Hindu Religion. Most of the Neupane Brahmans in Indian write their surname Sharma to generalise themselves in the caste system scenario. In Nepal too few of them prefers to write their surname Sharma or Kaudinya.[1]
