Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005

Nationaal Songfestival 2005 was the national final format created by TROS and NOS in order to select the Netherlands’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2005.

The format of the competition consisted of five shows: four semi-finals and a final. All shows were held at the Pepsi Stage Theatre in Amsterdam and were hosted by Nance Coolen and Hans Schiffers. The four semi-finals, held between 20 January 2005 and 10 February 2005, each featured six competing entries from which three advanced to the final from each show.

Results during the semi-finals and the final were determined by a jury panel and votes from the public via SMS and televoting. In the semi-finals, the songs first faced a public televote where the top two entries qualified. The jury then selected an additional qualifier from the remaining entries to proceed in the competition. In the final, the winner was selected by a combination of the votes of three jury groups (50%) and televoting (50%).

Artists and composers were able to submit their entries to NOS from 2 August 2004 until 1 October 2004.[1] From all songs submitted, a selection committee selected 24 songs for the competition.

The first semi-final took place on 20 January 2005. Three entries qualified to the final. The six competing entries first faced a public televote where the top two songs advanced: "Go!" performed by Trinity United and "One Look" performed by Renée & Dennis. An additional qualifier was selected from the remaining four entries by the jury: "Someone Like You" performed by Yvette.

The second semi-final took place on 27 January 2005. Three entries qualified to the final. The six competing entries first faced a public televote where the top two songs advanced: "Tusken skimer en ljocht" performed by Meänder and "Baby It’s You" performed by Chastity. An additional qualifier was selected from the remaining four entries by the jury: "Tomorrow" performed by Tiffany.

The third semi-final took place on 3 February 2005. Three entries qualified to the final. The six competing entries first faced a public televote where the top two songs advanced: "When Forever Ends" performed by Johnny Rosenberg and "Tranen in de stilte" performed by Barbara Lok. An additional qualifier was selected from the remaining four entries by the jury: "Stay" performed by Femme Vocale.

The fourth semi-final took place on 10 February 2005. Three entries qualified to the final. The six competing entries first faced a public televote where the top two songs advanced: "How Does It Feel" performed by Airforce and "My Impossible Dream" performed by Glennis Grace. An additional qualifier was selected from the remaining four entries by the jury: "De liefde" performed by Darre.

The final was held on 13 February 2005. The twelve entries which qualified from the preceding semi-finals competed during the show. The winner was selected by a combination of the votes of four voting groups: a three-member jury panel (30%), an international jury (10%), listeners of Dutch radio station Radio 2 (10%) and televoting (50%). The winner was Glennis Grace with the song "My Impossible Dream".
