Early life

Nesrin Hanım was born in 1826 in Poti, Georgia. Born as Adile Asemiani, she was a member of Georgian noble family, Asemiani. Her father was Manuçar Bey Asemiani and her mother was Mahra Hanım.[1] She had a brother named Hasan Bey.[2]

She had been brought to Istanbul at a young age, where her father entrusted her to the imperial harem. Here her name according to the custom of the Ottoman court was changed to Nesrin.[1]

Marriage

Nesrin married Abdulmejid in 1846. She was given the title of "Third Fortunate". The same year, she gave birth to her first child, a son Şehzade Mehmed Ziyaeddin.[3] The prince died young.[4] On 26 August 1848, she gave birth to her second child, a daughter, Behice Sultan in the Old Çırağan Palace.[3]

In 1850, she was hoisted to the title of "Second Fortunate". The same year she gave birth to twins, Şehzade Mehmed Nizameddin and Şehzade Mehmed Bahaeddin.[5] Abdulmejid was on a trip in Anatolia, and received the news of their birth through his mother, Bezmiâlem Sultan.[6] Both the princes died young.[5]
