Nanyang Business School

Nanyang Business School (NBS) is the business school of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU). Singapore's oldest business school, NBS was established in 1956 at the then Nanyang University, which was subsequently absorbed by the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1980 before it finally moved to NTU in 1987. It is also the largest business school in Singapore with over 6,800 students pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate and executive programmes.[1][2]

Professor Ravi Kumar joins as Dean of NBS from University of Southern California's Marshall Business School, where he was Vice Dean.
  • 2012: NBS' actuarial science programme is accredited by the UK's Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, the first in Singapore.
  • 2011: NBS is ranked No. 1 in Asia and No. 6 in the world by the Brigham Young University Accounting Research Rankings. Professor Tan Hun Tong is named the world's top accounting researcher, while Professor Jun-koo Kang is ranked top finance researcher in the Asia-Pacific. The Institute on Asian Consumer Insight (ACI) is launched.
  • 2009: The Nanyang MBA programme is ranked No. 24 in FT’s list of top global MBAs, the first Singapore business school to achieve a top 25 position.
  • 2008: Undergraduate double degree in Accountancy and Business is launched.
  • 2007: The Nanyang MBA debuts at No. 67 in the Financial Times’ (FT) listing of the world’s top MBA programmes. NTU is recognised as a CFA Program Partner Institution by the CFA Institute, which awards the Chartered Financial Analyst® credential. Professor Jitendra V. Singh joins as Dean of NBS from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was Vice Dean.
  • 2006: Undergraduate double degree in Business and Computer Engineering is launched.
  • 2005: NBS’ business and accounting programmes are accredited by the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), the first in Singapore to achieve the US’ top quality assurance standard for business schools.
  • 2004:NBS is conferred EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) Accreditation, the first Singapore business school to achieve Europe’s top quality assurance standard for management and business education. The Nanyang MBA programme debuts at No. 93 on Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU’s) ranking for the world’s top 100 MBA programmes, the only Singapore business school on the list. Cornell-Nanyang Institute is set up to create a joint Master of Management in Hospitality Management programme.
  • 2000: Asian Business Case Centre is launched.
  • 1999: MSc (Financial Engineering) programme is launched.
  • 1998: Nanyang Fellows programme is launched.
  • 1995: SAB is renamed the Nanyang Business School.
  • 1994: PhD research programme is launched.
  • 1991: Nanyang Technological Institute (NTI) becomes the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

Academia & Accreditations

Nanyang Business School is the first business school in Singapore, and the third in Asia, to be accredited by both the European Quality Improvement System and Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. It is also one of only 11 business schools outside of the US to be accredited with the AACSB in Accounting.

Undergraduate Programs

The school offers 3-year direct honours single degree programmes. NBS' double degree programmes and the integrated Bachelor/Master's programme can be completed within 3.5 to 4 years. As part of the degree requirements, all undergraduates will have to complete a professional internship.

Campus

Nanyang Technological University Residential Hall

NBS is located within the campus of the Nanyang Technological University along with several other schools, colleges, and residential buildings of the university. NBS also includes an e-commerce laboratory and financial trading rooms. In 2014, NBS launched the 165-square meter Centre for Applied Financial Education, the largest finance lab in Singapore. The new lab is equipped with 60 dedicated Thomson Reuters Eikon terminals with Datastream, along with 24 Bloomberg terminals that will allow business school students to access all kinds of real-time financial, economic and business news information.[3]


Faculty

Nanyang Business School (NBS) has more than 200 professors from over 20 countries, holding doctorates from the most renowned universities in the world, making NBS one of the largest business schools in the world in terms of faculty strength.[6][7]

Professor Vijay Sethi (Information Technology & Operations Management) was awarded World’s Best Business Professor by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) [8] in 2013. His work is focused on digital disruptions, the economics of technology, social media and networks, data analytics, legal and IPR issues, and patterns of new technology evolution.
