Murthal

Murthal is a village in Sonipat district of the Indian state of Haryana. It is located 6 km (3.728 miles) north of Sonipat, 45 kilometers (31 miles) from the national capital New Delhi, and 202 km (126 miles) southwest of Chandigarh, the state capital.

History

The word 'Murthal' is suggested to have originated from the compound word Muni Sthal meaning 'place where saints meditated' (e.g. Kaali Baba). It is believed that the people of the village came from Lado Sarai. Murthal is the origin of Antil gotra also. According to some myths, it is believed that Lord Krishna while going to war of Kurukshetra he took some rest. A tomb is also there in the village from ancient times. At one point, the village was surrounded by a dense forest. Eventually, the forest was cleared for more agricultural space, and subsequently into a residential area after the development of the National Highway.

Education

Murthal village has a unique history in the field of Education. Up to 1937, Murthal was among the few villages in Punjab ( now In Haryana) with a government middle school. Many notable personalities had been studied here Master Harphool Singh and Master Jeetram were teachers here in the same school. Deenbandhu Choturam a renowned personality of Punjab province (before 1947) came in Murthal middle school in 1938 on behalf of Khadar area, Master Harphhol Singh and Master Jeetram welcomed him. After independence here in later 1970 J.B.T. (Junior Basic Training) and B.ed (Bachelors of Education) were newly introduced courses in the government middle school. At that time hostel was there in the same school for outsiders. Murthal was a hub of education at that time in the whole of Haryana. Meanwhile, A private model public school was also established there with the help of villagers. And it also becomes a temple of education also. In later eighties a new generation of people came forward in field of Education. Master Ramdiya son of Master Harphool Singh and Ch SurajMal ,and other notable people of Murthal village took some pain in field of education. Ch.Husiyar Singh a notable personality of north India( Principal Delhi Government School) discussed with Ch Ramdiya Master ( Teacher in same school) (1983)(about opening a state Engineering college in Haryana in honour of Choturam. CH Ramdiya discussed with elder people of village in Dholi Chopal .The viilage Serpach Jagge and the whole villagers were ready to donate panchayti fertile land to donate for Engineering college. Ch Ramdiya master and Jage Serpanch were nominated in Choturam trust at that time .when the college was approved by center government, there was election of sarpanch in village and thethen Serpanch was defeated in election. The new Serpanch denied to give and land .that was a tough time .All jamidars gathered eith the help of Master Ramdiya and Ch Suraj Mal. A committee was there . Ch Ramdiya Master along with Ch Husiyar Singh and Ch SurajMal met Balram Jhakhar and Rajender Singh Malik at that time .they were in power at that time . A quick decision was taken by government of Haryana at that time. Serpanch was suspended. The jamidars gathered there along with Ch Ramdiya and Ch SurajMal and 283 acre land was donated for the sake of Education, in honour of Deenbandhu Choturam. C R state college of Engineering was there in 1986 .the first independent engineering college of Haryana in Murthal village. Two seats were reserved there in Engineering college with the hepl of Rambhajni DPE and Ch Ramdiya Master. Again in 2001 for the sake of Education of girls the people of khadar area under the flag Murthal village lead by Ch SurajMal (MLA INLD) Ch Ramdiya Master donated approximately 3 crore rupees to make a government's girls degree college. With the help of Kanya Mahavidhalya Sthapna smiti college was established named Tau Devilal government college for women Murthal. After that Murthal Education society looks after the government college, government sr sec schools both boys and girls and as well as DCRUST also (CR state college of Engineering).in 2006 Mr Bhupender Singh Hooda CM Haryana turned CR state college of Engineering in to a state technical university that is DCRUST. Ch Ramdiya Master Ch SurajMal, Ch Gulab Singh ,Ch Ramcher met CM for more reservation of seats in university. CM gave first 11 and 6 seats later as a reservation of Murthal citizens in Btech and Mtech .Meanwhile T.D.L government college has also improved a lot . Recently new course MA English and M.Com were introduced in the same college with the efforts of Principal, staff as well as Murthal Education society. In 2018 after the sudden death of Ch Ramdiya Master ( president Murthal Education society 1983 to 2018) Ch Ramchander Yogi is looking after the Murthal Education society as a President with Mr Gulab Singh ,Narender Singh (wrestling coach, Satnaran , Sunkhbir Singh and other notable people of khadar area like Hawa Singh from Depalpur etc .

Since it falls in between many routes, it has become notable as a refreshing spot on the journey. Subsequently, due to various vehicles stopping in this area, dhabas have grown which are famous for typical delicacies of northern India.

Since long Murthal has been famous for its highway dhabas (small restaurants).[1][2]
